Search Engine Optimisation, SEO, can be very beneficial to your business. It is also a good idea to check out a few search results and click on a few of the ads. There isn’t a shortage of SEO companies available, so finding them isn’t the hard part.

Assess the Company

Once you have compiled a list of companies that you are interested in and that you think will be able to help you reach your goal, it is time to start assessing the companies. A few red flags should be a company that makes unrealistic claims (like making your website number one in Google), a company that can’t explain what they are going to do to help you reach your goal, a company that doesn’t have a clear pricing structure, a company that doesn’t think long term (SEO doesn’t work overnight, it takes time to see results), and a company that doesn’t use many different strategies to get result.

As you start narrowing the field, be sure to ask for references from those companies that you are still interested in pursuing. Talking to former or current customers will give you an idea of how the company works and how long it takes to start seeing results.

Monitor the Results

Once you have decided on an SEO company, be sure that they are getting results for you. Give an SEO company about 6 months before you start to see results, and don’t just take their word that everything is working. Ask for monthly reports that provide metrics, or website data, related to your goal the keep tabs on how things are progressing with your website.

Remember, SEO takes time. For best results, when you choose a company to help your business with SEO be sure to know your goal, ask around for referrals, thoroughly assess an SEO company’s ability to help you reach your goals, and once you have hired a company, be sure to monitor the results you are getting.

Do you know what your client is really worth to you?

What do we mean by that? Let me explain.

Do you have clients that provide you once off revenue/ yearly revenue or monthly revenue? Why do we ask? It's because there is a very big difference in the value of them over a 12 month period that's why.

Take for example a tax accountant that just does your end of year tax versus a bookkeeper that does the books on a monthly basis (note that any tax accountant that doesn't have a bookkeeper on the payroll or doesn't do it themselves have rocks in they heads based on the below).

Let's just say that the tax accountant that does your yearly tax and makes $500 profit. Let's also say that the bookkeeper that does your books charges their time out for $500 per month. Thats pretty cheap for a good quality bookkeeper.

Now most of you right now will have worked out that the bookkeeper will make more money but how much more?

The tax accountant gets $500 per client per year but the bookkeeper gets $500 per client per month or, $6,000 per year. That's a significant difference but it doesn't end there.

Imagine also that the tax accountant finds 100 new clients to make $50,000 per year to make it worth their while to open up shop, do you know what the bookkeeper gets? Well given that each client is worth $6,000 per year 100 clients * $6,000 per year = $600,000. Not a bad business to be in hey. Better than $50,000 per year?

Monthly recurring revenue is extremely powerful in fact broken down to weekly it is even more valuable as it seems less. Imagine saying that your bookkeeper costs you $150 per week? That's a very affordable proposition.

Is it any wonder the accountants in the room that are successful are already engaged in a monthly basis.

Worth a thought next time you start thinking about the TRUE value if your client. Maybe it also might be time to reevaluate your current pricing structure.....

How do I get to the top of Google? Is this what SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) is?

These are two of the most common questions we get asked.

SEO is getting you to the top of Google, and it is based on the whole fundamental of what a Search Engine does. You see, a Search Engine has one task and one task only. It's job is to return the most relevant search result to the user. If they search for 'Lawyer Gold Coast' they expect to find exactly that. Not a lawyer based in Brisbane or worse, Sydney. The argument in the online world about whether or not that person can be serviced from Brisbane or Sydney is perhaps a question for another time.

So how do you get to the top of Google? More importantly what is this value? This is an extremely valuable question because many businesses need to see value in a particular marketing campaign before they can justify it. Well there are a number of tools that can help you to understand the numbers to justify the campaign too. Take for example the Adwords Keyword tool. Have a look at the below breakdown and see for yourself.

1.You can use this to actually get a good estimate of the total available traffic 2. There have been many studies done in the past to show that the top 3 results get over 50% of each search so let's use a guide of 25% to be at the top. 3. The average website conversion for SEO traffic is approximately 3-5% to a sales enquiry.

Using the above we can then break it down using the below example:

Total Traffic: 500 visitors per month Clicks to your site: 100 clicks per month (25%) Website enquiries: 3-5 per month (3-5%)

In the above example, 500 visitors is worth 3-5 leads. What is this worth to your business? Well what is your close rate and also what is your revenue per sale? Let's use the below example:

1. Win rate: 1 in 5 2. Revenue per sale: $300

In the above example, using the metrics from the first example we can say that the valued that initial 500 visitors is worth $300. Let's also say for example that this traffic costs you $100 per month to get.

Are you able to break down your current marketing to this level of detail? It is a 3-1 return on investment. Is it this effective? Imagine the model if you spend $500 per month or $1,000 per month.
